One of the greatest strengths of studying at the School of Herbal Medicine is that we operate our own weekly student herbal medicine clinic. Unlike many courses where clinical experience comes later, our students spend four years developing their consultation and examination skills in a real clinical setting, working with genuine patients under the supervision of qualified Medical Herbalists.
Our low-cost community clinic serves two important purposes. It provides accessible herbal healthcare for people across Somerset while giving our students invaluable hands-on experience that simply cannot be replicated in a classroom.
Every clinic session helps students build confidence in taking detailed case histories, carrying out physical examinations, formulating herbal treatment plans, and communicating professionally with patients. They also learn the practical aspects of running a successful herbal practice, including dispensing herbal medicines and working as part of a professional clinical team.
By the time our students graduate, they have completed hundreds of hours of supervised clinical practice. This means they leave the School not only with academic knowledge, but with the confidence and practical experience needed to begin practising as Medical Herbalists from day one.
